December is here, but don’t fill your calendar with endless Zoom dates and movie nights yet! This year, we are lucky to still enjoy a few safe, socially distanced events hosted by Long Beach and surrounding areas.

Read on to learn about some of the fun and festive ways to celebrate our community this December!

Make your own puppet at the Uptown Village Market Holiday Shop.
When
: December 12
th from 11AM – 3PM (takes 10-15 minutes)

Where: 7585 Carson Blvd, Long Beach, CA

What: The Uptown Village Market Holiday shop is hosting a walk-in DIY puppet making class that’s the perfect way to spark some holiday spirit. Perfect for children, but make sure they have an “assistant” present.

Cost: $10

Pretend you’re one of Santa’s elves and make your own LEGO holiday ornament.
When: December 19th, 12PM – 4PM

Where: 3768 Long Beach Blvd, Long Beach, CA


What
: At this “take and make” event, you can build your own LEGO Christmas ornament to decorate the tree. To adhere to social distancing policies, kits will be ready to pick up, then enjoy making the ornaments in the comfort and safety of your own home.

Cost: $20

Shop for unique gifts at the Torrance Antique Street Faire.
When: December 13
th, 8AM – 3PM

Where: 1225 El Prado Ave, Torrance, CA


What
: What a better way to enjoy holiday shopping than with an all-out antique faire?! This beloved annual street faire brings together over 150 vendors with unique gifts and vintage treasures.  You can even get your own antiques appraised! Pet and family friendly.

Cost: Free to enter.

Compete to be the best gingerbread house designer in all of Southern Cali with the Code Ninja’s Gingerbread House Contest!
When: December 12
th, 3:30PM – 6:30PM 

Where: Code Ninjas Palos Verdes, 60 Peninsula Center, Rolling Hills Estates, CA


What
: Get ready to become a gingerbread architect for the night! The Code Ninjas are hosting a family gingerbread building contest. Compete to win “Best Structure,” “Most Creative,” “Best Representation of the Theme,” (which is Holiday Nights in the South Bay), and “BEST IN SHOW.” $300 Grand Prize!

Show off your best ugly sweater with the Ugly Christmas Sweater All Bike Rideout.
When
: December 19
th, 12PM – 4PM

Where: 541 Banning Street, Los Angeles, CA

What: Dig out your best ugly sweaters and head to LA for a ride-out with all the best! Meet @chain_gang_crue, @beachmodeblocks, and @santabarbarasfamilia to ride through downtown LA in all your ugly knitted glory!

Cost: Free

Go for a holiday light cruise and see the Newport Beach Ring of Lights.
When: December 4 – January 3
rd, 2021

Where: 309 Palm Street, Suite A, Newport Beach, CA

What: Enjoy the decorating efforts of Newport’s bayfront estates and landscapes with a 75-minute holiday lights cruise.  Not only will you get to admire the lights on land, but your Newport Landings boat will be fitted with the best in onboard holiday décor.
