A Very Virtual Holiday: 3 Ways to Celebrate at Home in 2020

The holidays are here, have you started celebrating? No matter your background, your cultural traditions, or your favorite winter pastimes, it’s safe to say that 2020’s holiday season will be like no other.

We may not be able to gather or travel as we have in years past, but this unique holiday season does offer us the chance to connect in new ways all while staying healthy and safe.

Ready to plan your virtual holiday? Start with a few of our very merry, very virtual ideas!

3 Ways to Celebrate the Season Safely This Year

Sit by the “fireside.”
We may not be able to hang out by the fire with friends and family this year, but we can tune into a toasty virtual version of the real thing. Turn on Netflix’s Fireplace For Your Home, then invite a few friends for a virtual cocktail hour or a bedtime story for the younger members of your family.

Dress up for an at-home performance.
Many of us love to embrace the elegant side of the holidays with our favorite winter concerts, ballets, and performances. Due to Covid, many of these live performances have been cancelled, but the show must go on! Virtual Holiday Concerts allows us to enjoy our favorites right at home. Dress up, grab a hot chocolate, and enjoy the Chicago Theater, Bach Society, Josh Grobin, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Dave Koz & Friends,  and more.

Host a holiday card challenge.
Sending out holiday cards to friends and family is great, but why not go further this year? With more people suffering with stress, anxiety, and loneliness, now is the perfect time to send a special handwritten note to those in need. Seek out your local nursing home or care facility and ask if they are accepting holiday cards. Or, try TimeSlip’s Postcard Challenge and send a message to local frontline responders, healthcare workers, and patients who are unable to accept visitors this holiday season. Post your mail on your social media accounts and get your whole circle involved!

Celebrate Safe in 2020

There’s no reason this holiday season can’t be as special as any other. You’ll just need a little creativity, and some virtual holiday spirit! Stay safe, stay well, and happy holidays!
