“Bigger Than Roe” Protest in Long Beach

Action in Long Beach is one of more than 200 events in Cities Nationwide set to Protect all our basic Freedoms.

On January 22, 2023, the anniversary of Roe V. Wade, Long Beach mourns the loss of nearly 50 years of constitutional protections. Women’s lives are bigger than Roe. Reproductive freedom is bigger than Roe. Women, particularly women under 50, along with voters under 30, saw the 2022 midterms as a crossroads for our country and turned out in record numbers. We sent a clear message as voters showed up at the polls to soundly reject Trupism and MAGA Republicans.

This month, events organized by LB/OC Women Rising send another clear message: The midterms were just the beginning. We are not going gently. We are taking our fight to every state house and every legislator in this country. We are putting all politicians at every level of government on notice: If you come for our families, our freedoms, or our future, we are coming for your seat. Our movement is strong. Our movement is growing and we are demanding better. The freedom to decide how, when, and if we bear children. The freedom to raise children free from the terror of gun violence. The freedom to vote and participate fully and completely in a functioning democracy. The freedom to live in a country where we are invested in everyones’ prosperity.

We are thrilled to announce that attorney Gloria Allred will be speaking along with some other incredible women and allies including: Mayor of LB Rex Richardson, Vice Mayor of LB Cindy Allen, State Assemblyman Josh Lowenthal, Ms Gay Pride & Unity Trans Advocate Aailyah Ann Daniels, Candidate for Seal Beach City Council Stephanie Wade, Councilwoman Mary Zendejas, LB City College Board Member Sunny Zia, Councilwoman Megan Kerr, LB local/TikToker Carmen Flores, and ERA Activist/NOW 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient Zoe Nicholson.

WHEN: Sunday, January 22, 2023 – 1pm – 3pm PT

WHERE: The march begins at Victory Park, 448 E. Ocean Blvd. Long Beach at 1:00pm. The speakers will start at approximately 2:15pm at the end of the march, at Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse, 275 Magnolia Avenue, Long Beach.
