Long Beach City Council Declares Emergency Following Cybersecurity Breach
City Council unanimously approved a resolution ratifying the city manager’s declaration of a local emergency in response to a recent network security incident targeting city systems last Tuesday, Nov. 14. This declaration grants emergency powers to streamline the city’s response efforts, permitting action to mitigate the incident’s impact. The proclamation, effective until Dec. 5, enables the city to expedite essential services, deploy personnel, and secure necessary resources, ensuring continuity of city operations. While certain systems remain offline as a precautionary measure, the city offers ongoing services through alternative channels. Emergency services, including the fire and police department, are unaffected. Utility billing late fees and shutoffs are temporarily suspended. Long Beach Gears Up for 70th Annual Daisy Lane Parade
The 69th Annual Daisy Lane Parade is set for Saturday, Dec. 9, and will commence at 5 p.m. along Daisy Ave. and Burnett Ave., and end near West Hill St. and Maine Ave. Local businesses, nonprofits, and community groups keen on participating are encouraged to submit applications by Wednesday, Nov. 29. Long Beach Secures Site for 33 Tiny Homes Amidst Winter Shelter Opening

Annual Turkey Trot Returns to Rosie’s Dog Beach This Thanksgiving
Organized by Justin Rudd’s Community Action Team, the annual Long Beach Turkey Trot is set to take place at Rosie’s Dog Beach on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23. Participants of all ages can choose between a 5K or 10K run along a scenic route, with a special half-mile course for kids. Starting from the Granada Boat Launch Ramp, the course follows the coastline, with turnaround points at Shoreline Village for the 10K and Junipero Avenue for the 5K. The event doubles as a food bank collection center, urging attendees to bring non-perishable items. Registration fees support the Community Action Team’s initiatives, and some lucky finishers might receive holiday pies as a reward.
