In recent years, house music has made its way from the underground, into the mainstream. In Long Beach, nightclubs, restaurants and even the pier have become prominent venues to hear rhythmic electronic dance beats and be embraced by a community of like-minded individuals.
Lovers of house music should check out the all new house experience presented by Playa Larga during which Long Beach’s historic Pine Avenue will be transformed for a block party under the stars called Ascend on Friday.
Not only will there be great music to dance to but Ascend on Pine will also feature immersive experiences, art, mutant vehicles and much more. Tickets start at just $15.
Ascend will be headlined by Anton Tumas, of Subtract Music, a record label and artist collective based in Los Angeles. Originally founded by Tumas and a few friends, the passion project that is Subtract Music has evolved into a hub for supporting and promoting underground house music.
Subtract Music has become a fixture in Long Beach’s electronic music scene with the inception of Subtract on the Pier. The series, which has been running for about 9 years, features various DJs who supply the sounds for parties that take place right on the pier at Belmont Shore. For more information and to keep tabs on the latest Subtract events, be sure to visit them on the web.
While coming into the mainstream is more of a recent development, the electronic music scene in Long Beach has been around for quite some time. Ascend looks to highlight and celebrate some of the artists and djs who have established the scene in the city and continue to propel it forward.
