Summer is coming to a close but that doesn’t mean the fun’s going to end! One of the best things about Long Beach is that it’s full of fun and affordable events all year long. We’ve picked our top 5 family-friendly events for the week, so pack up the fam and get ready!
STROLL AND SAVOR
Wednesday August 21st and Thursday August 22nd from 5:30pm – 9pm
Come to 2nd Street in Belmont Shore to experience Stroll and Savor! Tickets for this tasting event cost $10 for a book of 12 and can be purchased in advance at Sweet Jill’s Bakery, Shore Business Center, The Beach on 2nd Street, Blue Windows, La Strada, and Salon Soma, or also at Chase bank on event day only. Most tastes cost around 3-4 tickets, and you can see the complete list of restaurants on their website. There is also free face-painting in front of Chase bank during the event and live music at a few different places up and down 2nd Street. For my family of 4, we usually buy 2 books of tickets and have enough for all of us to eat dinner – sometimes we buy a third book so we can all have dessert too! This is a fun family event that is also affordable and we love that it allows us to try new restaurants we haven’t had the chance to dine at yet! FREE OUTDOOR MOVIES AT THE PIKE
Thursday August 22nd from 8pm – 10 pm
This Thursday, come to The Pike Outlets to watch a free outdoor movie under the stars! This week’s movie will be The Breakfast Club and it will be shown at 8 pm at the Main Plaza. Pack a blanket or chairs to sit on, snacks, and warm clothes because the nights can get chilly. There will also be food available for purchase. DISCOUNTED LATE NIGHTS AT THE AQUARIUM
Friday August 23rd from 5 pm – 9 pm
This Friday night, the Aquarium of the Pacific will be staying open until 9 pm! Come check out the nighttime activities of the animals, touch the sharks and jellies, have a beer, and enjoy the evening lighting of the aquarium. Tickets bought after 5 pm are only $19.95 for adults (under 3 is free), and members are still free as well. SUMMER LUNCH CRUISES
Wednesday August 21st and Wednesday August 28th at noon
FREE Summer lunch cruises! Head to Shoreline Village this Wednesday to enjoy a free Spirit harbor cruise with the purchase of a lunch from one of several participating restaurants. Lunch prices range from $7 – $20 and include options such as wraps and sandwiches, salads, pizza, hot dogs, wings, and more. Reservations are required and we recommend you call a few days in advance because tickets sell out quickly! Kids under 5 are free, although several restaurants do offer kids’ meals if you want to get the kiddos food as well. The actual cruise departs at noon from Dock 9 near Parker’s Lighthouse. It’s 30 minutes long and goes around the harbor. The upper deck fills up quickly so get in line early if you want a spot up top. Don’t forget sunscreen and a jacket because it can get breezy. There is also a lower deck that’s covered and has windows so you get a good view of the harbor from inside as well. While on board, there are a few food and beverage options for purchase. The food options are light snacks such as chips. For beverages, there is water and soda, as well as several alcohol options. My personal favorite is the double shot margarita for only $5! This is a great summer event for the entire family and it’s something you can do without breaking the bank. FOURTH FRIDAYS
Friday August 23rd from 6 pm – 9 pm
Bring the family to Retro Row this Friday night for Fourth Fridays! This free community event will be taking place on 4th Street between Temple and Hermosa Avenues and will include extended store hours, food and drink specials, live music, and art shows. This Fourth Friday will also include a Photo Gallery pop-up, so be on the lookout for photos displayed at many of the local businesses. Find out more details on their website!
