My Long Beach – Fun for Everyone! September 12-14

September 12th-14th, 2019

Pirates and birds and puppies, oh my!  There are so many cool and unique events going on this week that it was hard for us to pick our favorites!  We were able to narrow it down to these five though, and there’s a huge range of event types.  Get out your calendars and pencil in these great events, and don’t forget to check back every week for that week’s My Long Beach column!

RANCHO LOS CERRITOS BIRD WALK

Thursday September 12th from 8 am – 9:30 am

What could be more relaxing than a bird walk?!  Stroll through the grounds of the historic Rancho Los Cerritos and watch both resident birds and seasonal migrants. Participants will also listen to calls and songs and potentially observe other specific seasonal behaviors.

Meet in the lower parking lot at 8 a.m. sharp. Wear comfortable closed toed shoes and bring a hat and binoculars, if you have them. The rancho also has a limited number of binoculars to lend, thanks to the generosity of Vortex Optics.

This event is completely free and open to all ages! It will be canceled if it rains.

MOONLIGHT MASH ROCKABILLY RIDE

Friday September 13th.  Meet at 7:45 pm, ride from 8:15 pm – 10 pm

Enjoy a community bike ride by moonlight!  Come join the Moonlight Mash community for their monthly night ride on the first full moon of every month!

Theme: One of Long Beach’s great subcultures has been that of the Rockabilly. This month they will salute the fine people who still rock out in public and generally are just cooler than everyone else. So grease or pin up your hair, put on those leather jackets and swing dresses, and go ride through the streets of Long Beach in style!

Please bring your helmet and lights to ride!!  There will also be a post-ride gathering at a bar or restaurant, location TBD

They are also teaming up with Long Beach Bike Share to offer bicycle rentals at a discounted rate. Sign up using this link (https://widget.socialbicycles.com/#/63/795) for just $2, then get an hour of ride time for free! After that, you’ll just pay the $7/hour rate (12¢/minute).

*Please don’t wear any attire that will greatly impact your ability to ride a bicycle, but please feel free to dress up (and paint your face)!*

Open to all ages!
