Is everybody back in their routines yet? Sort of? I’m excited that the kids are back to preschool and I’m excited about all the fun events going on this week! LIBRAS AND LEYENDAS
When: Tuesday January 7th from 5pm – 6 pm
Where: Billie Jean King Main Library, 200 W Broadway, Long Beach
Libros y Leyendas is a monthly storytime focusing on Latin American folklore and new books of Latin American interest for a slightly older crowd. They’ll read and perform both classic and new legends aloud from books or performing an oral story with props. This program is recommended for grades 2-5. Visit their website for more info!
POSTPARTUM SUPPORT GROUP
When: Wednesday January 8th from 11 am – 12 pm
Where: Gigil, 3430 N Los Coyotes Diagonal, Long Beach
The postpartum period can be really isolating! Head to Gigil every Wednesday for their free support group. This is a great chance to connect with other Moms and learn skills to navigate life with baby. This group is designed for both expecting and postpartum moms. Explore topics such as: Understanding the difference between the baby blues, postpartum depression and anxiety and other emotional changes that occur during this time; Coping skills, self-care, and mindfulness exercises; Transitioning from partners to parents; Bonding with baby; and more. UNDERWATER PARKS DAY
When: Saturday January 11th from 9 am – 12 pm
Where: Aquarium of the Pacific, 100 Aquarium Way, Long Beach
Learn more about Southern California’s network of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)! Guests will be able to learn about the commercial and recreational activities permitted. Stories will be told using film, lectures, and interactive exhibits. The event will also feature educational booths and activities in the Great Hall. Cost is included with general admission to guests and free to Aquarium members. Aquarium members also get 20% off for their guests. Head to the aquarium website for more details!
INTERNATIONAL NEW YEAR
When: Saturday January 11th from 12 pm – 3 pm
Where: Steelcraft, 3768 Long Beach Blvd, Long Beach
It’s a New Year’s celebration at Steelcraft! Head over this Saturday to learn about and participate in several New Years traditions from around the world. Activities include Chinese New Year crafts and the Korean Yut Nori game! There will be flamenco dancing from 12:30 – 1, Chinese Zodiac animal face painting from 12:30-2:30, and Japanese mocha pounding from 1-3. This event is free and open to all! LONG BEACH COMIC CON
When: Saturday January 11th at 12 pm, and Sunday January 12th at 12 pm.
Where: Long Beach Convention Center, 300 E Ocean Blvd, Long Beach
See your favorite comic book characters in real life! Comics, cosplay, anime, manga, video games — whatever fandom you’re currently obsessed with, it’s good to know that places like Long Beach Comic Expo still exist! Unlike the insanity of LA and San Diego cons, this expo gives you a bit more room to breathe as you geek out with other die-hard fans while meeting your favorite creators, celebrity guests and exhibitors. This is a great event for the whole family and the people-watching is next level. The event will be going on all weekend so you can head over for a few hours or two whole days!
