SELF LOVE: THE VALUE OF PUTTING YOURSELF FIRST
When: Wednesday February 19th from 6:30 – 7:30 pm
Where: Lazy Acres Market, 2080 Bellflower Blvd, Long Beach
2020 is the year of self-care! All are invited to attend this free wellness talk at Lazy Acres. Cassandra Vitale, an Intuitive Teacher and Owner of www.FreeSpiritYoga.com and Carmen Sima, an Ayurvedic Practitioner and Intuitive Guide of www.MotherEarthAyurveda.com, will be addressing the enormous mental, emotional and physiological benefits of prioritizing ourselves for longevity and happiness through modern and ancient modalities. They will provide tools to empower your self love practice as well as, guide us through a beautiful self love meditation. 18TH ANNUAL AFRICAN AMERICAN FESTIVAL
When: Saturday and Sunday, February 22nd and 23rd, from 9 am – 5 pm
Where: Aquarium of the Pacific, 100 Aquarium Way, Long Beach
Get your animal fix with a side of history! This festival will feature live entertainment and arts and crafts. Festival performers include Mardi Gras second line dancers, hip hop and break dancers, jazz musicians, interactive drum circles, West African dancers, and storytellers. Meet, learn about, and even touch animals from Africa with special guest Conservation Ambassadors, including serval cat, chameleon, African bull frog, Madagascar hissing cockroaches, savannah monitor, Dumeril’s boa, lemur, crocodile, African porcupine, eagle owl, and African emperor scorpion. This event is free for aquarium members; non-members can purchase tix using the link provided!
THE EXCEPTIONAL DAY OF PLAY
When: Saturday February 22nd from 11 am – 2 pm
Where: Wardlow Park, 3457 Stanbridge Ave, Long Beach
It’s play time!! This event will include accessible activities for children with special needs! Including sensory bins, arts and crafts, games, music workshops, and more! This event is free to the public, with an encouraged donation of $2. EDP is funded entirely by our community members and organized by High School students. Each “day of play” provides inclusive fun for the whole family, in a safe environment for children of all ages and abilities. Find out more at their event page!
THE GREAT LA AIR RAID
When: Saturday February 22nd from 3 pm – 8 pm
Where: The Fort MacArthur Museum in Angels Gate Park, 3601 S Gaffey St, San Pedro
The Fort MacArthur Museum is proud to present what has become one of our most popular signature events. The Great Los Angeles Air Raid of 1942 is the museum’s celebration of one of the most fascinating and controversial events in Los Angeles History. A night when literally thousands of people both Military and Civilian were convinced that Los Angeles was being attacked from the air, and even from space! To celebrate this day, there will be an air show, special exhibits, live music, and a dance class! Parking is free, must purchase tickets to attend. AFRO-LATINX FESTIVAL
When: Sunday February 23rd from 11 am – 5 pm
Where: Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA), 628 Alamitos Ave, Long Beach
Celebrate cultural diversity and the African influence in Latin America at MOLAA’s Afro-Latinx Festival! Learn about the many ways in which the African influence has permeated Latin America and how you experience these first hand through music, dance, food, and even martial arts. Head to the museum as they highlight this mixture of customs from African and Mestizo peoples in Latin America through art workshops, face painting, live performances, and more! Attendees are encouraged to use public transportation, bike or walk to the festival and enjoy free admission. Parking at MOLAA will be $10. MOLAA Members of Family level and above get onsite free parking
