California’s first women’s sports centric bar is set to open this month in Long Beach, bringing a much-needed spotlight to women’s sports.

The brain child of couple and business partners Jax Diener and Emme Eddy, Watch Me! Sports Bar is built for and by women’s sports fans as a community hub and of course, watching their game on the big screen.

The bar is meant to provide an opportunity for fans of women’s sports to experience watching the game in the same way men’s sports fan can: in a space surrounded by people with their shared interest and enjoying some good food and drink.

Diener emphasized that while the space centers around women’s sports, that does not make it a women’s only space.

“Our biggest thing is inclusivity,” Diener said. “Our main focus is bringing women’s sports fans together.”

With no other sports bar in the greater LA area catering to women’s sports fans, Watch Me! hopes to prove that there is a market for places focused on showing women’s sports.

“I think the culture here in Long Beach is perfect for what we’re doing,” Diener said.

The bar will be opening its doors on July 26 at 4 p.m., just in time for a Summer Olympics opening ceremony viewing party.

Bringing the idea to life has been a community effort, Diener emphasized, with future bar employees volunteering their time to help set up the space, building furniture and decorating the interior in time for opening.

The name came from a brainstorming session between Diener and Eddy, once they realized opening the bar was within reality.

“The name just stuck with me, when I went to bed that night I couldn’t stop thinking about it,” said Diener.

“Watch me!” serves as a reply to those who don’t believe a sports bar focused on women’s games could be popular or financially feasible.

“It just made so much sense,” Diener said. “All the times people have underestimated me and all I wanted to do was say ‘watch me.’”
