Fun ideas to do in Long Beach to break up your routine

It has become very clear that mother nature has other plans when it comes to winter time this year! As the weather is starting to warm up, and more people are itching to get out and take advantage of mother nature’s dismissal of winter, the big question is where to go?! We have curated a few ideas for when the beach just isn’t going to cut it, but you want to be out of your house.

Long Beach Antique and Flea Market

If you haven’t been to the Long Beach Antique market, you are missing out! With over 800 vendors ranging from artists to antique sellers, even plants, you will be sure to find something that catches your eye. They also have a concession stand where you can grab a snack and a beer to fuel your shopping endeavors and people watching. This event happens every 3rd Sunday of the month at the Long Beach City College Vet’s Stadium parking lot, entry is $8 and parking is free. If you forget to bring cash, don’t worry, they also provide ATM machines for your convenience. Grab a friend, partner or just yourself and help support small businesses while also getting to enjoy being out of your house.

Shoreline Park

Want to enjoy being by the water, but hate the sand? Head over to Shoreline park with a blanket, portable speaker, and a picnic basket and take in the Long Beach shoreline. If you want to grab a drink after hanging at the park, there are multiple restaurants that have happy hour within walking distance. There’s also smooth walkways if you’d like to rent a scooter or bring your own skates to cruise around the lighthouse and take in the sites.

Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden

The Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden on the campus of California State University, Long Beach is a perfect escape while not venturing very far. The Garden is a living museum, a place of learning, art, and culture for all. You will feel as though you have been transported to Japan while you feed the playful koi, stroll the winding pathways, view the Tea House, or reflect in the Zen Garden. Each season unfolds with colorful blossoms, exciting cultural celebrations, and intriguing exhibits. Be sure to check their website for the dates and times of availability, as you are required to make reservations to visit.

4th Fridays on 4th

If you are looking for something fun to do in the evening time, cruise on over to 4th Fridays on 4th street! This event is also once a month. There are street vendors, multiple shops to explore, and restaurants to enjoy. One of the highlights of this monthly event is all of the businesses on 4th street are locally owned, and what a great way to be able to shop small and support local small businesses all in one place!

Farmers Markets

The farmers markets scene in Long Beach is probably one of the more popular options when it comes to doing non beach related activities. Not only do you get to know where the items you are purchasing are coming from, you also get to help support local vendors and farms. The sense of community and unity the farmers markets provide is something to truly be proud of living in Long Beach.

If none of these are speaking to you, you can always take a long stroll, bike ride, or skate on the beach bike bath. Whichever you decide to do, remember we live in one of the BEST cities in California, dare I say the nation! So get out there and truly enjoy the different options Long Beach has to offer.
