Founded in 2010, G-Medical Massage Spa seeks to remove some of the stigma often associated with massage therapy.
“It’s more than a glorified back rub,” owner Giovanna Estocin said. “And it’s not a luxury just for the rich. Massage therapy is an integral part of one’s wellness journey.”
For Giovanna, the call to delve into healthcare came after a long career in printing. Her former career resulted in constant chronic pain from sitting for extended periods of time.
As she pondered her next career move, personal training and massage therapy stood out to her as ways to enter the world of healthcare in a way that was meaningful.
“I have an autistic brother and a friend with multiple sclerosis,” Giovanna said. “I have seen first hand how therapeutic physical touch can be.”
In the early days of her massage therapy career, Giovanna ran a mobile service, primarily serving individuals in hospice care.
For Giovanna, the experience of being able to provide moments of serenity and stillness to patients going through difficult times beautiful and validating.
Eventually, her client list grew and after four years, Giovanna began renting a room, which ultimately led to the establishment of G-Medical Massage Spa, as it is known today.
Giovanna now works with a team of therapists who, like her, understand the medical benefits associated with massage therapy.
“People will try to delegitimize the amount of work and education required to do what we do,” Giovanna said. “We learn about kinesiology, and about each muscle in the body.”
Giovanna and her team take a medical approach to massage therapy that is anything but clinical.
The space, located at the Los Altos Medical Center, is a welcoming spa-like environment where guests can unwind, taking in the scents of aromatherapy and relaxing on heated massage tables.
For Giovanna, heavy importance is placed on ensuring that every one who visits G-Medical Massage Spa feels safe, welcomed and cared for.
Originally hailing for the San Gabriel Valley, the choice to move to Long Beach and open her practice here felt right.
“Being that I identify as gay and female, it’s important for me to be in a place that’s diverse, non judgmental and safe,” Giovanna said.
For that reason, G-Medical Massage Spa is a proud member of the Safe Space Alliance, emphasizing that all are welcome to experience relief for their mind, body and soul.
