Happy Sundays Music Festival Returns for Its Seventh Year

In a world dominated by massive summer music festivals with hefty price tags that attract swarms of attendees, there’s a hidden gem that stands as a testament to the power of local artistry and community cohesion. Happy Sundays Music Festival returns to Long Beach on Sunday, August 27, offering free access to a diverse selection of musical genres and comedy acts, reinforcing the idea that music and entertainment should be accessible to all.

Now in its seventh year, the Happy Sundays Music Festival has been carving its niche as a grassroots event that champions both established and emerging local artists. Created by the dynamic duo of lifelong musicians, Scott Montoya and Julia Kugel-Montoya, this festival is not just about music; it’s a celebration of the spirit of togetherness that thrives within the Zaferia District.

This year’s lineup boasts more than 40 artists spread across multiple stages along East Anaheim Street. This year, the festival has partnered with Suicide Squeeze Records, who is curating two stages at the Bamboo Club and is featuring a roster of label alumni like LA WITCH, The Paranoyds, The Shivas, Julia, Julia, and Guantanamo Baywatch.

The festival provides a platform for musicians to share their craft at different businesses throughout the Zaferia District. The festival’s ultimate goal is to offer exposure not only to the performing bands but also to the venues themselves.

From family-friendly spaces like Bamboo Club, DiPiazza’s, and All Time Plants to the 21-and-over clubs such as, Port City Tavern, Bamboo Club Bar Envie, and Supply & Demand, there’s a spot for everyone to enjoy the music. To make the festival experience seamless, a continuous free double-decker bus service connects all venues, offering attendees the chance to explore the event with ease.

From 1 to 10 p.m., the Happy Sundays Music Festival is a playground for music lovers. The beauty lies in its simplicity: Attendees can simply step into a venue, immerse themselves in the music, and let the experience unfold.
