Healthy Brain Food Snacks for Homeschooling Days

As the summer closes and back-to-school days are near, many parents are wondering how to best manage new homeschooling trends. With the threat of coronavirus spreading through schools, many families are resorting to online classrooms.

Getting our children mentally ready to learn at home on a regular basis is the first step to success in our new world. And a healthy mind starts with brain food! As you prepare to homeschool this fall, keep these easy, healthy brain food snacks on deck to feed your child’s mind as they grow and learn at home.

Brilliant Fruit Smoothie

A fruit smoothie is a great anytime snack that packs a lot of nutrients in a small glass. It’s cool and refreshing and you can sneak in a few vegetables, as well, like cucumbers and kale. It’s best to stick with fresh ingredients so that you can avoid the high sugar content in juices to keep little minds focused. Thankfully, countless recipes use a variety of fruits that will be sure to please.

Yummy Yogurt

Yogurt is an ideal sweet treat substitute that is not only satisfying to young bellies but packed with nutrients. Yogurt is rich in calcium for developing bones, probiotics which can aid in digestion, and protein for brain function. But, skip the “kiddie” yogurts which are packed with sugar and additives. Instead, opt for full-fat yogurt, no sugar added yogurt and add fresh fruit, granola, honey, and nuts.

Veggies and Delicious Dips

Vegetables are the obvious healthy snack,  but why not take them to the next level? Keep kids curiously interested in their snacks by cutting them into sticks or fun shapes.  Make a veggie picture and pair with a healthy dip like hummus, natural peanut butter, or guacamole. The best thing about these dips is that they are high in healthy fats – the optimum brain fuel.

Satisfying Sandwiches

Sandwiches aren’t just for lunch – they can be made into simple snacks to enjoy throughout the day. There are endless healthy brain food options like turkey, swiss cheese and pickles, hard-boiled egg, avocado and tomato, cream cheese and cucumber slices. Cut into small triangles for a light snack or offer a whole sandwich to your growing teens.

Homey Oatmeal
Oatmeal is fantastic brain food, but it’s not a portable snack for kids to take to school. Thankfully, it is an easy snack for kids to enjoy at home. Oatmeal is packed with fiber, protein, and nutrients that keep your child/s brain active. It also satisfies hunger and helps avoid those brain-busting sugar crashes.
