Studio One Eleven architecture firm and LB Living are gearing up to host a spectacular block party at the Mosaic Promenade on Friday, June 23 at 5 p.m. to mark the launch of the Los Angeles Design Festival in Long Beach. This festival serves as a melting pot for the city’s creative community, bringing together designers, architects, artists, and innovators from various disciplines. This year’s theme, “Design for the People,” will celebrate the power of design in shaping our environments, experiences, and daily lives.
The Downtown Long Beach Design District will be one of three main locations of this year’s festival with free events open to the public. The block party at the Mosaic Promenade will transform the streets of Downtown Long Beach into a vibrant celebration of design. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore various pop-up exhibits and installations, showcasing the work of local and international designers. The bustling atmosphere, filled with music, food, beer, and excitement, will create a dynamic platform for networking and discovering new talent.
Apart from highlighting the inclusive art of design, the festival emphasizes the potential of design to positively impact society as a whole. Before the bloc party, the event will kick off at the Long Beach Museum of Art Downtown with a live podcast recording that welcomes People’s Pottery Project, whose initiative is to empower formerly incarcerated women and trans people through the arts. Then, Studio One Eleven will give a tour of their DTLB studio, a space meant to promote economic and social justice, education, and dialogue within design fields that impact cities.
At 5 p.m. the block party begins and will feature community demonstrations by S111-RDC, City Fabrick, and the LB Community Design Center. One of the highlights of the evening will be the debut of an exhibition by acclaimed artist Mario Ybarra Jr., titled ‘Like a Cow Visiting a Butcher Shop.’ Previously showcased at ARCO Madrid, this thought-provoking installation is now making its way to the artist’s hometown for the very first time. Attendees can expect to be captivated and challenged by Ybarra Jr.’s artistic vision.
Also on display at Studio One Eleven and throughout the Promenade will be an International Poster Exhibition by designers and graphic artists from all over the world to celebrate design creativity, inclusiveness, freedom, and love inspired by this year’s LA Design Festival Theme ‘Design for the People.’
