The annual Long Beach Filipino Festival is returning to Long Beach on Saturday, May 6 to commemorate the traditional Pista de Mayo springtime celebrations and parades of the Philippines.
“Pista de Mayo” translates to “May Fiesta” in Tagalog, and is a big celebration of Filipino food and culture. The event will kick off at 10 a.m. at Jackie Robinson Academic Field with a Santacruzan procession, which is a religious parade that dates all the way back to the 1800s.
The festivities for the rest of the event will consist of a Filipino acapella group, traditional dance groups, Filipino martial arts performances, dozens of community and retail vendors, rows of food vendors, and a kid’s area. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in traditional Filipino attire like barong tagalogs or Filipiniana dresses with their family or organization.
Presale tickets can be purchased for $5 at the Eventbrite page and door price admission is $10 at the entrance on the day of the event. Children 12 and under are free.
Proceeds will benefit a project which aims to designate a Filipinotown in West Long Beach, an area in which generations of Filipinos and Filipino Americans have thrived.
The Long Beach Filipino Festival will be held in May this year to be celebrated as a part of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Attendees can look forward to a wonderful cultural family experience that highlights the beautiful culture of the Philippines!
