Happy VDay week!  In case you don’t want your week to revolve around the day of love, we’ve included a big variety of events!  We’ve got nature, culture, Mardi Gras, and then we had to throw in a little VDay for those of you who love to celebrate love!  Here’s our top 5, and don’t forget to check back each week for that week’s best events, brought to you by Long Beach Home + Living and ExploreLongBeach !

RANCHO LOS CERRITOS BIRD WALK

When: Thursday February 13th at 8 am

Where: Rancho Los Cerritos, 4600 Virginia Road, Long Beach

Stroll through the grounds of the historic rancho and watch both resident birds and seasonal migrants. Participants will also listen to calls and songs and potentially observe other specific seasonal behaviors.

Meet in the lower parking lot at 8 a.m. sharp. Wear comfortable closed toed shoes and bring a hat and binoculars, if you have them. They also have a limited number of binoculars to lend, thanks to the generosity of Vortex Optics.  This event is free and open to all. Rain cancels.  Visit their event page to RSVP!

GRAND OPENING OF PIKE PARK

When: Thursday February 13th at 12 pm

Where: Pike Park, 195 W. Seaside Way, Long Beach

The public is invited to attend a grand opening celebration for Pike Park!  The 8,000-square foot park can be accessed via Seaside Way, just west of Pine Avenue, or via the slide, which is adjacent to the pedestrian stairs just south of Ocean Boulevard. The park’s features include a dog park, fitness stations, the slide, landscaping, lighting, benches and bike racks. Head to their website to get more details!

THE QUEEN MARY SCOTS FESTIVAL

When: Saturday and Sunday, February 15th and 16th from 9 am – 6 pm

Where: The Queen Mary, 1126 Queens Hwy, Long Beach

Experience the rich culture and history of Scotland first hand through an array of authentic activities, athletics, dancing, entertainment, and cuisine, paying homage to the Queen Mary’s Scottish legacy. Throughout the weekend, guests can witness professional and amateur competitions in piping, drumming, massed bands, darts, Highland dancing, and Highland athletics.  General admission tix are $25/adult and $15/children (4-11) for a single day, and $40/adult and $25/children for a weekend pass.  Check out their website to purchase tix!

SHORELINE MARDI GRAS

When: Saturday February 15th from 1 pm – 5 pm

Where: Shoreline Village, 401-435 Shoreline Village Drive, Long Beach

The annual Long Beach Mardi Gras at Shoreline Village is this Saturday!  This is one of my fav Shoreline events!  This year’s Mardi Gras theme will be honoring and celebrating the Long Beach Suffrage Centennial. This year marks 100 years of the 19th amendment, giving women equal voting rights.  The Mardi Gras Grand Marshal will be Senator Lena A. Gonzalez

As one of the largest annual FREE community events in Long Beach California, Shoreline Mardi Gras invites you to join thousands of cheering revelers as Shoreline Village hosts an afternoon of live music, bead throws, a parade, novelty acts and more. Join folks of all ages in dressing up, dancing, and making merry.

The highlight of our annual family-friendly celebration is our Long Beach Mardi Gras PARADE!! All are welcome and participation is FREE!!  The schedule is as follows:

-Tarot Card Reader 3-5

-Stilt Walker, 1:30-4:30pm

-Contortionist, 1:45-4:15pm

-Dennis G & The Zydeco Trail Riders, 1-5pm (Stage 1, Off-Boardwalk Stage)

-Face painting, 1-4pm (children only, Free)

-Mask making 1-5 (children only, Free)

-DJ Delvek, 1-5pm

-DJ  1-5pm

-Solar Power DJ, 1-5 pm

DATE NIGHT AT THE PIKE OUTLETS: NATIONAL FERRIS WHEEL DAY

When: Friday February 14th from 6 pm – 9 pm

Where: The Pike Outlets, 95 S Pine Ave, Long Beach

Not only is February 14th Valentine’s Day, it’s also National Ferris Wheel Day!   The Pike Outlets is combining both holidays with a fun celebration at the Ferris Wheel at The Pike Outlets! Bring your Valentine on a special date at The Pike Outlets for buy one, get one free Ferris Wheel rides, free caricatures, carnations, sweet treats, and giveaways!
