We’re officially one month away from the biggest and best Tacos and Tequila Fest yet!
Join us at Long Beach City College’s Pacific Coast Campus on June 29th for an all-day celebration of Latin culture featuring a wide variety of taco vendors, tequila tastings, live music, multiple bars, and lucha libre.
Lucha Libre is a cornerstone of Latinx culture that dates way back to the mid 1800’s. The popularity of the sport boomed in the 1950’s when it was televised to a global audience for the first time.
The sport, which features masked wrestlers battling in a ring, is an amalgamation of sport, theatre and social change. It was the first Mexican sport that allowed women to challenge gender norms by donning masks and throwing each other around, even going toe to toe with men.
This year’s Tacos and Tequila Fest will feature Damian 666, a luchador from Tijuana, Mexico who has been a trailblazer in the scene since the early 2000s.
With several world titles under his belt, Damian 666 is making one final victory lap in Long Beach. Be sure to head to the festival to catch what is likely to be one of last matches ever.
