If you’ve been downtown lately, you might’ve noticed street closures on Pine Avenue lately. These closures are a part of a new series of block parties called Summer on Pine.

The celebration is an end of summer festival aimed at reimagining Pine Avenue as a car-free corridor.

Summer on Pine Ave kicked off last weekend with the Big Gay Pine Avenue Takeover, a free LGBTQ+ celebration, presented by Be Proud! Fest. It featured live performances, street vendors, drinks and games for the whole family.

Last weekend, people of all ages donned roller skates to party in a roller disco under the stars.

This weekend is set to be just as exciting with a block party centered around house music called, Ascend.

On Sept. 6, Dance under the stars and take in immersive experiences, art, and mutant cars (think, “Burning Man”). As the house music community continues to blossom in the city, Ascend looks to create a safe space for like-minded individuals to release and be present.
