Bixby Knolls is one of Long Beach’s most vibrant, yet family-friendly neighborhoods. Just north of downtown, Bixby Knolls gives a neighborhood feel to the city of Long Beach, while offering exciting events and attractions like “First Fridays.”
Summer in Bixby Knolls is always something to look forward to, but this year will feel a little different. With the outbreak of COVID-19, gatherings and events are unlikely and we’ll have to wait to enjoy the live music and amazing art at First Fridays until next year.
But, that doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy a fun day out in Bixby Knolls while staying safe! We’ve put together an afternoon itinerary that allows you to maintain social distancing while still enjoying summer in Bixby Knolls.
A Socially-Distanced Day in Bixby Knolls
Start in the Park
Just West of the Bixby Knolls neighborhood is the Rancho Cerritos Park and Gardens – a beautiful nature park that typically hosts exhibitions, camps, and other events. Due to COVID-19, the park is taking extra precautions and asks that you reserve a ticket for entry before your afternoon in the garden. Once there, spend time strolling through the lush landscape or bring a book to enjoy under some shade.
Fill up on Atlantic Ave
Atlantic Avenue is Bixby Knolls’ vibrant shopping and dining area. Here, you’ll find a range of local restaurants offering pick-up service or socially distanced outdoor dining. For a cool, light lunch, head to Sushi West to pick up a few Japanese favorites. Or, grab a seat in the beer garden at Rasselbock’s and treat yourself to a schnitzel.
It’s 5:00 in Long Beach
Wrap up your day and welcome in the summer evening with a beer flight or wine tasting at Bixby’s oldest wine establishment, Willmore Wine Bar. The staff at Willmore are prepared to help you enjoy your evening in with social distancing protocols or purchase a bottle of wine for pick up and relax at home.
