Thai District is a restaurant that offers authentic and classical Thai dishes through the combination of a traditional Thai background and the structure of modern American cuisine.

Located on the corner of East Broadway and Linden Avenue, the restaurant uses garden-grown herbs, species, and vegetables as well as seasonal products in order to replicate the taste of northern Thai specialties.

Some popular dishes are from the Chiang Mai region of Thailand, and include the Hung-Lay Braised Pork, northern-spiced braised pork belly and pork loin with fresh ginger and roasted young garlic, the Nam Kao Tod Salad, ground chicken with fresh ginger crispy jasmine rice and roasted peanuts, and Geang Hoe, a dish with a little bit of everything such as chicken, noodles, pork belly, pickled sour bamboo shoots, and green beans.

Thai District is owned by Ty Theara, a chef from Thailand with a special take on Thai desserts, and André Anglès, a French chef who had previously owned a restaurant called Frenchy’s Bistro.

Theara met Anglès back in 2008 at Frenchy’s Bistro, where he later offered his services in order to improve the menu’s selection of desserts. With a shared passion for food and the restaurant business, the two quickly became friends and opened Thai District in 2015.

Together, Theara and Anglès have about 60 years of culinary experience and claim to create “a 100% chef-owned restaurant”.

Thai District also supports a number of organizations, such as the Elephant Nature Park, a rescue center for abused Asian elephants and worldwide advocates for their welfare, as well as some local organizations like the Long Beach Symphony Foundation, a major cultural institution that provides orchestral music and education programs for the city and surrounding region, and the Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital, a free-standing children’s hospital specializing in pediatric care for young children and adults and maternity care for expectant mothers.

“I always believed in supporting people in need in our community,” said Anglès. “It’s nice to do business in this city but it’s nicer to show that we also care!”
